English 20-1 blocks one and three
Students are to use today as their last day to work on their essay. You will also get an essay self-evaluation sheet to fill out and staple to the back of their essay when you hand it in. This is the last class I am giving you to work on this (Though you'll probably get the weekend to work on it at home). Also, I suggest that you should have a friend or family member that you trust to read it over as a final edit.
English 30-1 block two
Students are to use today to work on their essays. This will be only class time you will get to complete it – but that it won’t be due until Monday. You are also to complete the essay self-evaluation sheet I'll hand out today. This is to be filled in AFTER you have written your essay and stapled to the back of it when you hand it in.
Social Studies 33 block four
You are to hand in assignment A-5 today. We will discuss it. I will then give you a handut on the political specturm and tell you where to place Canada's political parties on it. Our discussion will be on Democratic Systems. We will go over the origins of democracy using p. 30-32 in text.
You will learn how to distinguish between direct, representative and proportional democracy. I will explain what Athenian Democracy was (direct democracy), the Magna Carta (institutioanlizing of rights), the Rights of Man (Fr. Rev.), universal suffrage - all adults have the right ot vote, and the prerequisites of democratic systems (representation by population, periodic elections, secret ballots, independent judiciary(courts free from political control), power of the purse, real choice (parties or individuals), interest groups, free press (fifth estate), minority rights guaranteed.
You are also to read chapter 3 and define the terms in bold.
